Why education can’t be free.

The idea of free education for all is an attractive one, and it is not difficult to see why many people would advocate for it. However, the reality is that providing free education to every single person in the world by 2030 is not a feasible goal. There are several reasons why this is the case.

First, education is expensive. Schools, colleges, and universities require a significant amount of funding to operate. This funding comes from a variety of sources, including tuition, donations, and government grants. If education were to become free, the cost of providing it would have to be absorbed by someone, and it is unlikely that governments or charitable organizations would be able to shoulder this burden alone.

Second, education requires resources. Schools and universities need buildings, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and other facilities to operate. These resources cost money to acquire and maintain. In addition, education requires trained teachers and staff, who need to be paid for their work. All of these costs would have to be covered if education were to become free.

Third, education takes time. It takes many years to complete a college degree, and this means that students will be unable to work and earn money during this time. If education were to become free, there would have to be a way to support students financially while they are in school. This could be done through government grants or loans, but it would still be an added expense.

Overall, while the idea of free education for all is a noble one, it is not a realistic goal for 2030. The cost and resources required to provide education to everyone in the world would be immense, and there would need to be a way to support students financially while they are in school. It is important to continue working towards improving access to education, but we must also be realistic about what is possible.

Circular Ruins, review

Circular Ruins is a beautifully written and thought-provoking novel by Jorge Luís Borges. It tells the story of a man who is desperate to create life, and will stop at nothing to achieve his goal.

The main character, known only as the «dreamer,» becomes obsessed with the idea of creating a living being from his dreams. He spends years studying and experimenting, and eventually succeeds in bringing a creature to life. However, as the dreamer delves deeper into the mysteries of life and consciousness, he begins to question the morality of his actions and the true nature of reality.

One of the most compelling aspects of Circular Ruins is the way it explores the concept of identity and selfhood. The dreamer grapples with the idea of whether his creation is truly a living being or just a reflection of his own thoughts and desires. He also struggles with the idea of whether he is truly in control of his own actions, or if his fate is predetermined by some higher power.

Overall, Circular Ruins is a thought-provoking and intellectually stimulating read that will leave you questioning the nature of reality and the limits of human ingenuity. It is a must-read for fans of science fiction and philosophical literature.

Why is nationalism important

Nationalism is the belief that people who share a common language, culture, and history should be organized into a nation-state, where they can govern themselves and protect their unique identity. Nationalism is often seen as a political ideology, but it can also be a cultural and social movement.

There are several reasons why nationalism is important for society:

Nationalism promotes unity and cohesion within a society. By focusing on shared values and traditions, nationalism can bring people together and create a sense of belonging. This can be especially important in diverse societies, where people may come from different backgrounds and may not always agree on everything. Nationalism can provide a common framework for people to identify with and rally around.

Nationalism can also foster a sense of pride and patriotism among citizens. When people feel a strong connection to their nation, they may be more likely to contribute to the common good and work together to solve problems. This can lead to a more harmonious and cohesive society.

Nationalism can provide a sense of identity and purpose for individuals. Belonging to a nation can give people a sense of purpose and meaning in their lives. It can provide a sense of belonging and connection to others, which can be particularly important in times of crisis or change.

Nationalism can also serve as a means of self-defense and protection. By forming a nation-state, people can establish a system of governance that reflects their own values and interests, and work to protect those interests from external threats. This can be particularly important for small or vulnerable nations that may face challenges from larger or more powerful countries.

However, it is important to note that nationalism can also have negative consequences if it is taken to an extreme. Extreme nationalism can lead to xenophobia and discrimination against people who are perceived as outsiders or threats to the nation. It can also lead to conflicts between nations, as different groups may compete for resources or territory. It is important for societies to balance the positive aspects of nationalism with a commitment to inclusivity and tolerance.

Essay

When you have a difficult problem in life, what do you feel is the best way to solve it?
I believe using the World Wide Net would be the most advantages method of solving a personal problem. Although, the presented options seem efficient as well, I am more inclined to trust the internet for several reasons.

First of all, the internet is a place where thousands of people with similar problems have already found solutions. Both outer and inner issues can be shared on social platforms where people with more personal or professional experience suggest solutions. Reddit, Quora or Вопросы Mailru are great examples of platforms where people can discuss and resolve their matter.
Secondly, the internet has much more information to offer than any acquaintance can have. The unmeasurable amount of literature available on internet, combined with social medias where people can share their experience guarantees a very high rate of success in solving a problem. Online books, podcasts and blogs are all great sources of specific information. Since people have always struggled with certain things, it doesn’t come as surprise to see solutions for popular problems posted on the internet.

Last but not least, privacy. We can say that whenever an obstacle evolves into a problem, it also becomes the weak spot of the person, that’s why it is so common to hide problems and keep them in themselves. The internet, on the other hand, provides an opportunity to share your problem to people who don’t know you, and are not likely to judge you. When two complete strangers discuss an issue, not only does the first person feel comfortable to share their problem anonymously, but also the second person isn’t ashamed of their past experience and can feel free to help others.

To conclude, I am sure that finding information using the internet is the most efficient way of solving your problem. The internet gives the chance to share a personal matter anonymously with people who have already gone through that and can be of great help to you.

Negative side of social media

‘These days people spend more and more time on social media. Do you agree that this trend has an adverse effect on society?’

There is a popular belief among the previous generation that the effects new technologies have on people are more negative than positive. From my perspective, even though social media could possibly be blamed for certain things, its advantages for the new generation actually outweigh the disadvantages.

Firstly, social media are a new way of connection between people who don’t necessarily have to be near each other. For example, before online relationships became popular, most people made friends in their educational institution or workplace only. Basically because they spent most of their day at those places. Now, however, people don’t have to be near each other physically to be very close. So social medias were a huge help to people who couldn’t connect with their nears and dears in real life. What’s more, with the development of media means family members who live far from each other can get  information about their family instantly through stories in Instagram or posts on Facebook.

In addition to this, social media contributed to people having overall larger social circles. People from the same communities, like students of an educational institution, can get to know each other via social media. These bonds don’t necessarily have to be strong but knowing people around you and a little about them is very useful. A Russian saying goes «don’t have a hundred rubles but a hundred friends», as connections are a strong tool in modern society. What’s more, people with unusual or unique hobbies now have many opportunities to make friends online and then meet up, creating interesting friendships based on common interests.

Lastly, social media is the most popular platform for content creators or artists. Given that all the data is online, people don’t necessarily have to go somewhere to see beautiful works of art, they’re published on the Instagram page of the artist, for instance. No cinema can fit millions of viewers like YouTube does, and there are very few museums that are big and popular enough to attract millions of people every year, whereas the newest and most interesting content can be found on social media almost immediately after the author publicizes it. There are various blogs teaching different things, information that can cost thousands of dollars in university can be studied in a personal media page for free in a lot of cases.

To conclude, I definitely think that the benefits that social media provides to the new generation are much greater than its hazards. Social media can connect people and create beautiful bonds between them, or teach things that are very useful in life. Social media is a great tool that is very useful when handled properly.

Research work, the Bermuda Triangle

Hon 0- Introduction

The topic of this paper is on of the most mysterious areas on the planet, namely, the Bermudian triangle. Historical deception is based on various factors that will also be stressed in the paper. Disinformation, unreliable sources, press and media that popularize fake news, and those who make fake news.

The main goal is deciphering the myths around this part of the ocean and showing how disinformation and naïve mindset can create enormous myths around certain areas and people.

To meet our expectations concerning the content of the paper the following objectives have been put forward;

  • Find essential details about the geological and oceanological features of the area.
  • Carry out research on what professionals say about the topic.
  • Find historical data about the area and incidents that happened around it.
  • Check the reliability of every single piece of information that has been used.
  • Present information and data that can be neither faked nor forged.
  • Find new research tools and methods of research.

I consider this to be a complete research paper that can provide essential information that is very hard to find on the world wide web. Bermuda Triangle itself does not have any magical powers, but if I dig deep into the stories around it I will be able to prove that the legend of Bermuda Triangle is a result of mass deception. The paper will further present 5 chapters that will gradually reveal the truth.

  • In the first chapter you will read about the very first years of the legend.
  • In the second Hon I provided theories brought by scientists that make sense at first glance, later I added some details that cast strong doubts on the theories.
  • The third part presents a story told by an individual who played an important role in the increase of the popularity of the legend.
  • From my personal standpoint, the fourth part is the most important one as it reveals the truth behind some terrifying plane crashes and incidents.
  • The final and fifth part is an oceanological research that shows why the crashed machines are never found again.

Hon 1- The start of the legend

Almost every person has heard of a mysterious place where ships and airplanes happen to get lost. In this area, navigation tools cease to work and those who are lost there are never found again. Today the Bermuda Triangle is one of the scariest places on the planet where people perish with no trace even if the weather is favorable.

Firstly, there is no such thing as the Bermuda triangle. The so-called triangle between Florida, Bermuda islands and Puerto Rico was «invented» in the 20th century. The name was first introduced by Vincent Gaddis in 1964 in an article for a journal called «Argosy». That’s how the triangle became so well known amongst people all around the world. Soon there were a lot of articles, books and even films about this mysterious place.

Hon 2- possible reasons for the anomalies

Scientists used to claim that methane hydrate was to blame for these accidents. As methane dissolves at the bottom of the sea, it generates gas that goes to the surface of the sea, decreasing the density of water and causing ships to sink. However, physician and oceanologist Helen Czerski casts some strong doubts on the point. She claims that the gas wouldn’t be powerful enough to sink a ship, it would simply push the ships away a bit. The US Center for Earth Resources Observation and Science claims that there was some amount of this chemical in the majority of water bodies, and it could possibly sink a small ship. Yet, most of the methane has dissolved about 15.000 years ago and can’t be a serious threat today.

Another theory suggests that there are rectangular clouds above the mysterious triangle, that cause fluctuations in air pressure, «shooting air bombs» that accelerate up to 170 miles per hour. Surprisingly, these clouds actually exist and they can be seen in different parts of the world. Still, not once has an accident ever been recorded to have been caused by these air bodies.

The last theory that conspirologists really like is that there is a crystal pyramid at the bottom of the sea. Even the Russian 1st channel once made a report about this pyramid. There is no real evidence for its existence as «All the cameras suddenly stopped working as soon as we got close to the pyramid», a reporter says. Western television couldn’t miss this opportunity either. While explaining the origin of the crystal construction, the program mentions some newspaper articles that I easily found and analyzed. Sadly, the newspaper was fake, namely, all the articles and news were fake. Considering all the facts found, I am strongly inclined to doubt that there is a crystal pyramid at the bottom of the Bermuda Triangle.

Hon 3 — The Witness

This story doesn’t seem to be completely made up as there is a person who claims to have witnessed what is at the bottom of the Bermudian Sea. In 1970 a doctor named Ray Brown from Arizona told a story. Once Ray was diving with his friends, who swam away leaving him completely alone. He suddenly saw a glass pyramid that was bigger than those in Egypt. After swimming inside the construction he saw a statue resembling two hands holding a crystal sphere that he successfully stole. After touching the sphere a creepy voice ordered him to leave, since he got what he wanted. Another important detail that I think should be mentioned is that Ray refuses to show the sphere to anyone so there is literally no reason to believe his words. Still, he claims to own it, he even says that the sphere can affect compasses. Ray Brown mentioned in his interview that the sphere was studied at the University of Florida, but the university itself reported this claim to be fake. After doing some research I found out that Ray Brown isn’t even a doctor. The science that he studies is called Naturopathy — a belief that goes against any medical development and claims the human body to be completely invincible to any disease — a rather anti-scientific claim, in my opinion.

Hon 4- Numerous crashes and victims.

Even though the theories about this mysterious area can be proven to be fake, one thing that can’t be faked is that a lot of people have died in various incidents.

Case No. 1

In 1943 the tanker called Four Lakes was built and later renamed as Fogg. «Fogg» is mentioned in most stories concerning Bermuda triangle. The tanker full of explosive materials set off in Texas and disappeared. A lot of people claimed the incident to be caused by some mysterious forces that inhabit the Triangle as there was no SOS signal. Some sources claim the tanker to be found without any crew. The only person left was the captain casually sitting on his chair with a cup of coffee in his hand. After some digging I found out that the tanker was found, it was 80 kilometers away from its original route. Taking into account the fact that it was full of explosives, it is no surprise that the tanker was severely damaged as a result of a huge explosion. All the bodies, including the captain, were successfully found and identified. What’s more, the incident wasn’t even close to occur in the triangle.

2nd case

In 1925 a ship called Catopaxi travelled from South Carolina to Cuba and surprisingly disappeared. The case happened near the Bermudian Islands so the triangle was once again blamed for the incident. In 1977 Steven Spielberg made a film called «Close encounters of the third kind» about aliens. In one of the scenes, the viewers were shown a ship that was lost long ago in unexplainable circumstances. I believe this scene stimulated interest in masses and many people started to seek such stories in real life. Later, the case of Catopaxi became popular in media and the articles about this ship went viral. Conspirologists insist that the ship was found 90 years later. To defend this statement many people refer to a picture of what they say is Catopaxi, in the sea far away from its original location. With the help of old newspaper articles I learnt that on the 1st of December there was a terrible storm in the area where the original Catopaxi was headed, the article even mentioned the SOS signal sent by the crew of the ship, it is said in the message that the ship is full of water and it’s going down. Soon after that the ship disappeared. Further, I did research on the ship found later in the seas that conspirologists claim to be Catopaxi. The claim that Catopaxi disappeared has no leg to stand on as the picture presented by articles doesn’t match the original appearance of Catopaxi. I even watched the film made my Steven and found the exact scene that photoshoppers used. The ship from the film was photoshopped to water and presented as a mysterious case that happened in the Bermudian triangle.

3rd case

This might be the most famous incident when it comes to lost people in Bermuda Triangle. Six US battle airplanes where lost on the same day. This event was later called «The Lost Patrol: Flight 19». The legend goes that on the 5th of December in 1945 five airplanes literally disappeared. No bodies were found, the planes weren’t found either, another plane flew to find them and had never returned. Many websites mention a radio report that I’ll write below.

«Everything is wrong, the ocean doesn’t look right.»

«We can’t see earth»

«We’re entering some white water»

«Don’t come after us, they look like they’re from the Cosmos»

The story increased in popularity and peaked in 1974 when Charles Berlitz wrote «The Bermuda Triangle», a book about all the mysterious cases that happened in that area. It is usually written that it was a normal flight, with experienced pilots and the weather was great. The official website of Lauderdale Fort, it’s the place where the planes set off, there is a whole museum with detailed information about «Flight 19». One of the files includes all the reports sent on that day and none of these matches the previously mentioned reports. After searching for 4 whole days I somehow found the report scan that dates back to that exact day in 1945 when the incident happened.

Firstly, it was a training flight with completely inexperienced pilots, only the leader had some experience flying, Lieutenant Taylor.

Secondly, other training flights took place on the same day, and regardless of the fact that those groups flew in Bermuda Triangle they have all successfully returned.

Lastly, pilots had some dialogues with each other, they mentioned that they’re lost. Soon after that the Fort contacts the pilots, Lieutenant Taylor says that his compasses don’t work and he doesn’t know where to fly. It’s important to mention that only Lieutenant’s compasses had trouble working. The fort suggested to turn the planes by 270° and fly straight, but Taylor refused to do so. He said that he’ll fly straight untill he finds land or uses up all the fuel. As all the freshmen had compasses they suggested that Lieutenant followed the order and turned the plane, but Taylor once again refused.

In addition, the weather was awful, meteorological report of Miami mentions strong wind and heavy rain. Lieutenant’s last report says that they’ll only stop when there is no fuel left, or until they reach land. Nothing about aliens or white water. Lieutenant Taylor was objectively a piece of sheet whose actions led to numerous victims. He was later prosecuted for crashing 5 planes because of «mentally unstable condition».

But what about the 6th plane that set off to find the others. 20 minutes after it set off a cargo ship called Gaines Mills reported an explosion, a falling plane and provided accurate coordinates that completely matched the coordinates where the connection with the 6th plane was lost. The thing is that planes like Martin Marine were usually called flying gas gallons and smoking on board was strictly prohibited.

5th Hon- Why weren’t the planes found?

A question begs why the planes weren’t found, since their approximate coordinates of collapse are known. There are many reasons for the phenomena, the ocean in Bermuda Triangle is very deep with mountains and sinkholes, there is even a region called Puerto Rico trench that is 8 km below the sea level. It’s normal to conclude that planes which crashed in the area are likely to be lost forever as people can submerge as deep as 330 meters only. Another factor that plays a major role is the Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream is a strong ocean current that brings warm water from the Gulf of Mexico into the Atlantic Ocean. It extends all the way up the eastern coast of the United States and Canada. Objects that are in it’s way are likely to travel thousands of kilometers before getting stuck somewhere and staying there forever. So if theoretically a plane crashes into water it isn’t likely to be found if searched.

By the way according to official data of plane and ship crashes all around the world, there are numerous areas that are much more dangerous and fatal than the Bermuda Triangle.

Ultima conclusio

As a conclusion I want to note that it’s actually very hard to remain undecieved in this world of disinformation and fake media. In the end, there is no solid evidence to claim that the Bermudian Triangle has any kind of extraordinary powers and all the legends that you’ve heard are either a result of disinformation or the influence of unreliable media.

The first logical explaination for the extraordinary powers of the area was rejected as most of the methane has dissolved about 15.000 years ago and can’t be a serious threat today. Another theory was rejected for lack of evidence not once has ever been recorded an accident caused by hexagonal clouds. Another theory describes a crystal pyramid, and while explaining the origin of the crystal construction, the main source of the information mentiones some newspaper articles that I easily found and analyzed. Sadly, the newspaper was fake, namely, all the articles and news were fake. Considering these factors, I am strongly inclined to believe that there is no crystal pyramid. The witness that provides essential evidence on the topic, turns out to be a fraud who lied in many interviews and doesn’t have any leg to stand on. When it comes to victims, there are thee main stories, in the first one all the bodies, including the captain, were successfully found and identified. What’s more, the incident took place in an area not even close to the Bermudian Triangle. The second major case is much more complicated and the only conclusion that can be made is that a combination of mass deception, fake media and stupid people, was a great help to spread a fake topic around the world. In the third case most of the information found on the internet is fake and was harshly rejected by officiall data from the American government. Lastly, there is a scientifically proven explaination on why the machines crashed there are not found again. The Gulf Stream, it is a strong ocean current that brings warm water from the Gulf of Mexico into the Atlantic Ocean. It extends all the way up the eastern coast of the United States and Canada. Objects that are in it’s way are likely to travel thousands of kilometers before getting stuck somewhere and staying there forever. So if theoretically a plane crashes into the sea in the area of the Bermudian Triangle, it isn’t likely to be found if searched.

History courses being obligatory in universities

There is a popular opinion that history courses should be obligatory at universities so that students are able to learn from their ancestors and contribute to the development of society. I don’t quite agree with this statement, and I’m going to provide reasons against it.

Firstly, history is completely irrelevant to some fields of study. Some students prefer fields that actually have very little in common with history, and studying history alongside with their main course will simply waste their time. For instance, the majority of science students, including me, wouldn’t be happy to have time-consuming history classes on our schedule. I have been studying organic chemistry for the last 2 years and I have never had any trouble because I lack knowledge of history. So history courses not only fail to provide benefits to some students but they also take up their precious time that should be spent on their major.

Secondly, University students have a clear understanding of what subjects they want to study. During their studies at school students are required to attend various classes, including history. My point is that if a student genuinely enjoys history classes they can choose them as an additional course at University, and if they are not committed, they are most likely to study half-heartedly, which is simply a waste of time.

Last but not least, some people simply lack the necessary vocation. I know it sounds a bit unprofessional to blame talent but it is actually a significant factor. For example, I still remember some tactics and tricks used by warlords from my 6th grade program. Yet, I can’t remember the name of the person who was the topic of my history research 3 months ago. In other words, an obligated history course will require a considerable amount of time for some students, which students don’t always have. As a result, some students’ time will be used less efficiently than others’, thus damaging their academic performance.

To conclude, I definitely disagree with the necessity of studying history at university. An obligatory history course would waste the precious time of students whose main course is irrelevant to history. And even if a student actually makes an effort, the time they spend on memorizing information on history will be taken from their main course.
